Training communicators in gender-responsive storytelling for the media

“The idea is to visualize women’s needs and preferences

to inform how they can have a seat at the table. And

what happens when we don’t do it? By default, when you

imagine a farmer, it’s a man, right?”

In 2023 and 2024, the CGIAR GENDER Impact Platform and Econnect Communication trained 45 science communicators on how to tell mainstream media stories about agricultural solutions that work for women.

We also wrote a training guide on telling stories about gender-responsive agricultural solutions that you can download; our storytellers found the story template particularly useful for getting started. You can read their resulting stories below.

We conducted the training online for the participants (with a face-to-face component for our second cohort), who hailed from 15 countries: Kenya, Nigeria, India, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Mexico, Tanzania, Pakistan, Indonesia, Zambia, Philippines, Nepal, Bangladesh, Egypt and Uganda. You can read more about the training in this article.
