Workshop evaluation

Reaction-based:
workshop feedback sheet provided at end of workshop by Econnect and
results collated

Learning: assessment of learning on an individual basis is provided
throughout the workshop by both oral and written feedback.

Behavioural: individual feedback provided as skills are practised in
the workshop; plus individual feedback forms from Econnect.
Workshop preparation
We ask
each workshop participant to bring along two potential media story ideas.
We supply participants with details of the venue and any other
arrangements.

- TV news journalist - presentation and discussion about what makes TV

- Demo interview with one participant on video
- Individual interviews on video while rest of group looks at:

Media releases - why use them? How they are written?
Print media
- Print media journalist - presentation and discussion about what makes
print media work
- Demo interview
- Interviews in pairs with journalist while rest of group reviews TV
news interviews
- Controlling agenda with print

What to do when the media get it wrong
Day 2
Other forms of TV
- TV journalist #2 - reviews key points on TV news; discusses other
forms of TV (magazine, current affairs, etc)
- Individual interviews while rest of group discusses other forms of TV with examples
Controlling
the agenda with other forms of TV
Shaping the story
What to do when things get awkward or hostile - scenario setting
What to do when the media comes to you unexpectedly - role playing
Lunch
Radio
- Group divides into two; one does individual taped interviews with a
news radio journalist; other group does individual taped interviews with
a program radio journalist
- Whole group discussion with 2 radio journalists about radio and how it
works, and how stories can be shaped
- Groups swap over
- Controlling the agenda with radio
