Interpreting science, and natural and cultural attractions

Some of our recent projects are listed below.

Museum Zoo - Queensland Museum, 2006

The Museum Zoo exhibition focuses on size and survival of animals, spectacularly showing off the museum’s collection while drawing attention to the threats to animal habitats.

We collaborated with museum curators, Brandi Exhibitions, and Desmond Freeman and his team at Ormsby Kerrins Freeman to bring this fantastic parade of animals to you. No cages, no glass cases. Take the kids or borrow someone else’s—it’s a learning experience and a lot of fun.

Museum Zoo ran throughout 2007 at Queensland Museum South Bank, Brisbane.

Water WOWsers show - Queensland Museum Sciencentre, 2006

We collaborated with designers Hanne and Tommy Brandi, physics whiz Joel Gilmore, and museum curators to develop the Water Wowsers show for the Queensland Museum's Sciencentre.

Water WOWsers is an entertaining and interactive multimedia science show that helps school-age children learn about water properties, uses, quality, availability and conservation.

The children receive some fun ideas for science demonstrations and water saving tips that they can share with friends and family.

Water interactive exhibits - Queensland Museum Sciencentre, 2006

Working with museum curators, Brandi Exhibitions, and Desmond Freeman and his team at Ormsby Kerrins Freeman, we helped design concepts and write interpretative text for three water interactive exhibits for the Queensland Museum's Sciencentre:

  • The Water Cycle (ball run)

  • Are you a Water Hero or a Water Zero? (pinball machine)

  • Water Filtration (hands-on filters)

The exhibits give visitors a hands-on experience with aspects of water treatment, water cycles and water conservation ideas.

Megafauna: Prehistoric giants from the Darling Downs - Queensland Museum, 2007

We provided interpretive text for seven panels in the Queensland Museum's Megafauna exhibition.

This included reviewing and rewriting draft text supplied by the museum, ensuring logical story and content flow, using clear and active language, and writing to the interactive components within the exhibition.

Megafauna ran until February 2008 at the Cobb+Co Museum in Toowoomba, Queensland.

BioBus - Queensland Government, 2005 and 2007

We developed the content for an original mobile exhibition on biotechnology aimed at high school students. We wrote content for hands-on and interactive exhibits, and scripted a short film on biotechnology applications. The BioBus is touring schools in Queensland for two years.

In 2007, we reviewed the Biobus content for currency and made recommendations for changes.

The outcome: Mobile bus interactive displays and short biotechnology film for school students.

Lark Quarry Dinosaur Trackways, 2001

We developed and implemented the communication strategy for Queensland Heritage Trails Network’s redevelopment project for the 95 million-year-old dinosaur trackways.

The outcomes: The fusion of art, science and conservation for creative interpretation.

Coastal Lowlands Education Kit - Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, 2000

We developed this education kit to inform and engage Sunshine Coast communities in appreciating and protecting the remaining coastal bushland.

The kit provides information on the values, threats and locations of coastal bushlands types. It includes guidelines on networking and how to get involved in protecting bushlands. We also included a teacher’s resource with curriculum guidelines and activity ideas.

“During this project, Econnect Communication maintained open communication channels, discussed and resolved issues as they arose, and worked to short deadlines. EC also went the 'extra mile' with testing and evaluation - things that are usually left out when time is tight. EC’s knowledge of communication techniques was obvious and added to the high quality of the finished product, as did their knowledge of the topic.”

Mandy Heales,
Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service

The outcome: An easy-to-read, comprehensive education kit for community groups and schools.
