Communication support - Managing Climate Variability, 2006–10 In close consultation with Land & Water Australia and program partners, we researched and consolidated messages, and developed tailored communication strategies and tools to help this national research program reach its objectives. We produced an informational program brochure, 27 fact sheets describing the research projects within the program, and content for the program's website. We write stories for the program's biannual newsletter, Climag, and manage the complete publication process. Through links we have developed with relevant media channels, we share stories about the program's research with a view to increasing uptake of research outputs. Working closely with the Bureau of Meteorology, we analysed the needs of farmers and natural resource managers for seasonal forecast tools and information on the internet. We reviewed the literature, interviewed industry visionaries face to face and ran two online surveys to get broader input. We designed the information architecture and repurposed content for a new website for farmers (Climate Kelpie) which is currently being tested. |

Communication strategy and guide review - Murray-Darling Basin Commission, 2006 We examined the use and application of the commission's communication strategy guide. We consulted widely using interviews, focus groups and a web survey with 76 commission staff and 332 external representatives. We then compared our data with baseline data collected in 1999 to the commission's performance in information transfer and exchange, networking and involvement. We also looked at what would be required in a new communication strategy to link it to the commission's current strategic plan and ensure its relevance in addressing the needs of the commission and its jurisdictional and other partners. The outcome: A report including recommendations for developing a new communication strategy |

Communication strategy for nature conservation - Gold Coast City Council, 2005 We investigated the views of Gold Coast residents and others involved in or concerned about nature conservation. We collected information on people's awareness, attitudes, perceptions, concerns, needs, involvement and activities related to nature conservation communication. We used this baseline data to develop the first four steps of a communication strategy for the Nature Conservation Strategy and to evaluate the effectiveness of communication activities. The outcome: Baseline data and recommendations for strategic communication of the Council's Nature Conservation Strategy. |
