Collaborating across the sectors
We worked with
Anne Pisarski and others from The University of
Queensland and talked to researchers from all over Australia
who are doing wonderful collaborative work across the
humanities, arts and social sciences sector and the science,
technology, engineering and medicine sector. The whole
process was inspiring. Read our report which is published by
the
Council for the Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences for
the Department of Education, Science and Training.
Museum Zoo
The
Museum Zoo exhibition is open now and running all
through 2007 at Queensland Museum South Bank in Brisbane. It
focuses on animals, size and survival and unashamedly shows
off the museum’s collection. We collaborated with museum
curators,
Hanne and Tommy Brandi, and Desmond Freeman and his team
at
Ormsby Kerrins Freeman to bring this fantastic parade of
animals to you. No cages, no glass cases. Take the kids or
borrow someone else’s—it’s a learning experience and a lot
of fun.
Queensland Museum Sciencentre: Water interactives and water
show
We had a great time with the
Brandi/Freeman
team developing the
Sciencentre’s new water interactives.
Joel Gilmore also gave us some fabulous advice on presenting
science through the new water show we developed.
CRCA Hypothetical - Not a drop to drink
With ABC’s Bernie Hobbs (see
Bernie’s latest column on green Christmas shopping), we
wrote and produced a hypothetical on water. It will be broadcast
on Radio National on Sunday, 7 January at 1pm and repeated on
Tuesday, 9 January at 1pm. The podcast will be online for four
weeks.
Managing Climate Variability
Throughout 2006, we worked with our favourite design team,
See-Saw, to develop a suite of communication materials for
the national
Managing Climate Variability program. Thanks also to
Printpoint who do a fantastic job using a waterless press.
Thinking Bush
In
Thinking Bush 4, we brought together five years of native
vegetation management research for Land & Water Australia. We
worked with
Biotext,
Don Alcock,
Cathy Sage and Duncan Handley to produce the magazine.
Landcare in the Philippines
We have continued to work with AusAID and ACIAR Landcare in the
Philippines project with Noel Vock, producing a monthly ezine
for the project. It was exciting to catch up with old friends
from the Philippines at the International Landcare Conference in
Melbourne this year and also making some new friends.
Murray Darling Basin Commission's communication
This year, we used qualitative and quantitative analysis to
review the
Murray Darling Basin Commission’s communication strategy by
comparing with baseline data we collected in 2000.
Riversymposium 2006
For the second year running, we worked with
Don Alcock at
Keytext on media liaison for this international event. Next
year’s
Riversymposium on environmental flows is the only place to
be in September for river managers.
Media liaison
We also liaised with the media for many other conferences
and would like to thank
Cathy Sage, Stephanie Williams,
Niall Byrne and Sarah Brooker, Steve Posselt, Paul
Howlett, Margaret Bates, Chris Moran, Clem Hill, Miriam Way,
Lidia Dalton, John McMillan and Larelle McMillan for being
so fabulous to work with on:
Communication skills workshops
Our communication skills workshops continue to be popular and
we’d like to thank all the communicators who work with us to
facilitate these workshops—Toss Gascoigne, Cathy Sage, Don
Alcock, Niall Byrne and Sarah Brooker. Thanks to Fiona
Barbagallo from the Queensland Department of State Development,
Trade and Innovation who helped us develop our new
course—‘Communicating in a Minute’
DEH - Managing for biodiversity in the rangelands
We continued our work with DEH in publishing booklets in the
‘Managing for biodiversity in the rangelands’ series.
Dairying for Tomorrow
Dairy Australia invited us to beautiful Tasmania to investigate
Dairying for Tomorrow catchment research. We wrote articles
about the great work they are doing with producers, researchers
and the community to improve land management practices for
better water quality.
Coastal Zone CRC - research on partnerships
We worked with the Coastal Zone CRC to publish their
research into partnering with communities for sustainable
development.
